Walker Hayes Brings The Party To Cleveland With 'SAME DRUNK TOUR'
Sisters, musicians and North Dakota natives Kendra and Krista, known professionally as Tigirlily Gold, kicked off the night in Cleveland on the 'SAME DRUNK TOUR'. The sister-duo rocked the stage with both newer and older songs and had the crowd engaged the entirety of their set. From fan interactions to dancing together Tigirlily Gold set the pace for the rest of the night. The sisters even promised to meet fans and sign merch after their set, setting a good example for younger artists about how to build a fanbase with on-on-one interactions.
Following Tigirlily Gold, Southern Illinois native, Matt Schuster was warmly welcomed to the stage. Fans cheered as they sang along to covers like "Vienna" and his popular songs like "Rich Man" and "Bail Money", Schuster had the crowd locked in from the moment he went on stage. Between songs he interacted with the crowd and spoke about his own journey in life through music - relating what he could back to music while sharing with the crowd moments in his childhood and life that helped create the songs they know and love today. Matt Schuster is quickly paving his way and making an incredible name for himself in the country music scene and it shows with every performance.
But the star of the night was the man at the top of the ticket. Hayes' energy and enthusiasm was contagious, with fist pumps and smiles during many of the more upbeat tracks.
One of the most admirable qualities of country music is the impact it has on the community…Not just for those who listen to it, but for those who write it, sing it, and perform it as well. Walker Hayes, a Mobile, AL native spent the early years of his career grinding his way throughout the writers’ rounds and the latter years playing for thousands of fans on sold-out tours.
The result of the trials and tribulations turned chart-topping success story is a feel-good, party-style concert experience from start to finish, which was on full display at Jacob's Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Accompanied by four dancers, including his 18-year-old daughter Lela, Hayes made his way around the stage and interacting with fans through a 90-minute set that featured all the singer’s biggest hits as well as a few b-cuts that only his oldest and most devout fans would recognize.
Throughout his 14-year career, Hayes has tackled tough subjects like sobriety and breakups but reminding himself and everyone around that no matter what you go through, everything will be just fine. His song “AA” is about a guy trying to do right by his wife and kids, wrapped in sentiments about keeping his daughters away from pole dancing and his sons out of jail while he tries to keep himself out of AA.
Hayes shared "I've been sober for 8 years, during that time, I've gone through countless ups and downs, and I'm always proud to share songs that celebrate the highs, and make people feel less alone in the lows. We're all in this together, and that's what this project, and this tour, are all about."
The 'SAME DRUNK TOUR' wasn't just a party on the water in The Flatts Thursday night, but a chance for Hayes to bond with fans and family. From sharing stories ranging from meeting his wife and his journey with sobriety to sharing the stage and signing with his daughters, the 90-minute concert proved to be more than just that.
